An Unexpected Welcome
When we told a Colombian man we met in Panama that we were planning to visit his country next, his answer surprised us: “Thank you”. Colombia has been panned as unsafe, fueled by the cocaine trade, and unfriendly to the backpacker budget. All of these rumors were turned on their head from the moment we arrived. A country filled with delicious food, the foot of the Andes, Caribbean beaches, and locals that go out of their way to be helpful is a paradise for any traveler – and as we were soon to discover, a highlight of our entire travels abroad.
