A Place Apart

Uruguay doesn’t feel like it belongs in South America, but at the same time it doesn’t quite fit in Europe or any other place. The second-smallest country in South America has the perfect combination of ease of travel, not too many tourists, and worthwhile sights. So even though it can’t brag about its waterfalls, hiking opportunities or vibrant cityscapes, Uruguay is well worth a week of travel for its uniqueness – not to mention its hot springs, beaches and their national drink, mate. So much mate….
