We originally added Romania on to our Bulgaria ski trip almost as an afterthought – only after we’d booked a flight out of Bucharest did we start looking in to all Romania had to offer. The cities were modern and well-kept, the towns maintained their medieval charm, and the countryside was a step back in time where horse and buggy helped farmers watch over their land. There’s no doubt – Romania in February is cold. But without those plummeting temperatures, how do you sleep in ice castles, skip crowds and find your strength in hot wine? There’s no bad time to visit the country, but winter unlocked beautiful landscapes framed with fresh snow and winter adventures only for the hearty (and somewhat foolish)…
