It's a Wrap

It was a Friday night when cruised in to Bucharest. A quick subway journey took us to the Sector 5 part of the capital city, where brick-laid pedestrian walkways lead you to palaces, museums and cute restaurants.
We wandered in to our big splurge: the Mansion Boutique Hotel. We only had one night in Bucharest, so we wanted to make the most of it – by showering and passing out.
Since the last time we had showered was Tuesday night, we were a little ripe when we arrived to the 4-star hotel. But the staff was professional as ever, and even offered us a glass of champagne while we checked in despite smelling like sour alcohol and sweat.
I know we had just spent the last few nights in some pretty basic (and unique) locations, but we really upgraded for our final night in eastern Europe. The hotel even loaned out iPhones so you could use their maps and tips to venture out in the city.
But we didn’t have a lot of “venturing” in mind. After we had scrubbed the layers of grime off of our bodies, we headed out to find a final dinner and chose some typical Romanian fare off a street crowded with restaurants and hawkers inviting you in for special deals. We shared a bottle of wine and remininsced about the past two weeks.
In comparison to some of our past year-long trips and epic trips, this one was definitely a short vacation – but dense with skiing, new Bulgarian and Romanian friends, ice hotels and even a brush with death. What started as a bargain ski vacation turned in to one for the memory books.
